2014 General Election of the Graduate Student Council Bureau of China-EU School of Law

The fifth general election of the Graduate Student Council Bureau of China-EU School of Law was held at 19:00, May 14th, in 306 of Mingfa building. The elections were organised by the previous year's student representatives. The seven candidates introduced themselves by campaign speech, introduction of their recommendations and a Q&A session before the actual voting took place. LIU Jiahao was elected as the new chairman of the Graduate Student Council, with LIU Jing and XIE Xinhui being elected as Vice-Chairmen.

Before the elections, WEI Wei, the Chairman of the Fourth Graduate Student Council, summarized the work of the council in the past academic year, pointed out achievements and difficulties in the work, including welcoming the new intake, the New Year's party as well as sports activities, expressed gratitude to the hard work of all council members and the support of the faculty members and fellow students. Meanwhile, WEI Wei placed his expectations and hope on the new bureau, and spoke of a prospect for the development of Graduate Student Council.

The election program was released on CESL website on May 6th. Seven students from 2013 intakes submitted their applications as candidates. In order to involve more students into the election process, the office of Graduate Student Council offered official letters of authorization for students who could not attend the event but wanted to transfer their votes. Participants were allowed to execute up to two voting rights on the instruction of such students.

Carrying out by secret ballot, the election was divided into two rounds. The first round was a multi-candidate election, which means the top three candidates who got the most votes of all the seven will make up the new bureau of Graduate Student Council. The second round of voting was conducted among the three members of the new bureau, the one who finally won the most votes in the second round will act as the new Chairman of the council and the other two will be the vice chairmen.

At the end, the new bureau extended appreciation for the support of all the students and expressed strong determination on providing better service for the students by working together to lead the student members of the Graduate Students Council to do their job, continuously to develop and improve the system of the Graduate Students Council, striving to be a bridge between the law school and students and trying their best for the development of China-EU School of Law.
